Camille Captures Creteil Crown

15 Feb 2009

Creteil squash star Camille Serme provided the perfect climax to the Women's Internationaux de Creteil by winning the $12,000 WISPA World Tour event in its third year at Centre Marie Therese Eyquem in Creteil, in the outskirts of the French capital Paris.

It has been a fairy-tale week for the nineteen-year-old from Creteil who won the French national crown for the first time before heading home to compete in this international event in the club where she learned to play squash with her life-long coach Philippe Signoret.

The third seed faced event favourite Manuela Manetta, the 2007 champion from Italy whom she had never before beaten.

Defying the seven-place gap in the world rankings, Serme twice recovered from leads by Manetta before clinching her stunning 5-11, 12-10, 6-11, 11-8, 11-7 victory to become the first French winner of the title.

The win takes Serme's WISPA World Tour title triumphs to three - but is her first on home soil.

Final:
[3] Camille Serme (FRA) bt [1] Manuela Manetta (ITA) 5-11, 12-10, 6-11, 11-8, 11-7
