Simpson Celebrates Edmonton Success

8 Dec 2008

Chris Simpson, the fourth seed, won the inaugural Servus Credit Union Edmonton Open after beating local hero Matthew Giuffre in the final of the $10,000 PSA Tour squash event at the Royal Glenora Club in Edmonton, in Alberta, Canada.

The 21-year-old Englishman from the Channel Island of Guernsey reached the final after battling for five games to beat Gilly Lane, the No7 seed from the USA, 11-7, 5-11, 9-11, 11-4, 11-5.

After making semi-finals following an upset over third seed Ryan Cuskelly, local hero Giuffre continued his giant-killing run by ousting Hungarian favourite Mark Krajcsak in the other semi.

But Simpson was too strong for the sixth seed from Edmonton in the final, beating Giuffre 11-8, 11-9, 11-5 to win the second PSA Tour title of his life.
