Local Hero Giuffre Makes Edmonton Semis

Canada's Matthew Giuffre delighted his home town fans in Edmonton when he claimed an unexpected place in the semi-finals of the Servus Credit Union Edmonton Open after upsetting third seed Ryan Cuskelly in the quarter-finals of the $10,000 PSA Tour squash event at the city's Royal Glenora Club in Alberta, Canada.

The 26-year-old sixth seed from Edmonton beat the higher-ranked Australian 11-6, 13-11, 7-11, 11-7 and will now face favourite Mark Krajcsak for a place in the final.

Krajcsak, the Hungarian number one from Budapest, will be meeting his third successive Canadian after dismissing David Phillips, the fifth seed from Montreal, 11-7, 7-11, 9-11, 11-8, 13-11.

Seventh seed Gilly Lane also upset the form book by beating second-seeded Dutchman Dylan Bennett 11-6, 6-11, 10-12, 11-6, 11-8. The 23-year-old American from Philadelphia will now face fourth seed Chris Simpson after the Englishman defeated Ireland's John Rooney 12-10, 11-6, 11-4.
