Scott Secures Spanish Open Semi Slot

Australian Scott Arnold caused the first upset in the OHL Spanish Open when he knocked out third-seeded Frenchman Renan Lavigne in the quarter-finals of the $22,000 2-star PSA Tour event at Centro Insular de Squash de Tenerife in Santa Cruz on the Spanish island of Tenerife.

The 22-year-old from Brisbane battled for 80 minutes to overcome the world No32 from France 11-6, 3-11, 15-13, 3-11, 11-8.

Eighth seed Arnold now faces local hero Borja Golan, the top-ranked Spaniard from Santiago who cruised to an 11-3, 11-6, 11-6 victory in 31 minutes over Egyptian Mohd Ali Anwar Reda.

Second seed Omar Mosaad and fourth seed Mohamed El Shorbagy will meet in the other semi to guarantee an Egyptian finalist.

Mosaad, 20, from Cairo, beat fifth-seeded compatriot Amr Swelim 11-5, 11-6, 12-10, while UK-based El Shorbagy, aged just 17, despatched Australia's Bradley Hindle 11-6, 11-8, 11-7.
