30 Nov 2008

England's Suzie Pierrepont battled to her first ever victory over Hong Kong's Rebecca Chiu when she upset the top seed in the women's semi-finals of the Macau Open in Macau, the first European colony in China.

The sixth seed from Sussex, who is now living in the USA, stemmed a fight back by the favourite in the $16,000 WISPA World Tour event to beat Chiu 11-7, 11-7, 8-11, 9-11, 11-5.

Pierrepont is celebrating her sixth - and biggest - WISPA World Tour final appearance.

The 23-year-old world No37 will now face second seed Samantha Teran after the 27-year-old Mexican recovered from a game down to beat USA's fourth seed Latasha Khan 8-11, 11-6, 11-8, 12-10.

The final of the men's $52,500 5-star PSA Tour event will feature the event's top two seeds.

French favourite Gregory Gaultier, the world No3 from France who has yet to drop a game in the tournament, despatched Pakistan qualifier Aamir Atlas Khan 11-2, 11-5, 11-4.

The 25-year-old from Aix-en-Provence is celebrating the 30th PSA Tour final appearance of his career - and his fifth this year.

Gaultier will meet Egypt's Karim Darwish, winner of the Qatar Classic last month. World No2 Darwish, who overtook the Frenchman in the rankings this month, needed four games to overcome France's No4 seed Thierry Lincou 8-11, 13-11, 11-4, 11-3.

The 27-year-old from Cairo, runner-up in the World Open in October, is celebrating his 23rd Tour final appearance.
