Hometown Boy Borja Beats Boswell For Santiago Title

9 Nov 2008

Organisers of the Santiago Open are celebrating their dream climax to the 3-star PSA Tour squash event in Santiago de Compostela after hometown hero Borja Golan battled to a 70-minute win over higher-seeded opponent Stewart Boswell in the men's final at Shopping Center Area Central.

Reproducing the same form which saw him earn a surprise second round place in last month's World Open in England, fourth seed Golan delighted his local fans by beating his second-seeded Australian opponent 11-7, 9-11, 11-3, 11-7.

It was the pair's first ever meeting on the Tour. Golan was not only celebrating the 17th PSA Tour win of his career - but also the biggest.

The women's WISPA World Tour Tour 4 event final saw French favourite Camille Serme end the courageous run of England's seventh seed Lauren Selby.

Serme, the 19-year-old world No49 from Creteil, took just 22 minutes to overcome Selby 11-7, 11-3, 12-10 to secure the second WISPA Tour title of her career.

Men's Final:
[4] Borja Golan (ESP) bt [2] Stewart Boswell (AUS) 11-7, 9-11, 11-3, 11-7 (70m)
