Top Seeds In Danish Open Final

6 Apr 2008

Top seeds Daryl Selby and Simon Rosner will contest the final of the Squashlife Danish Open after straight games wins in the semi-finals of the $10,000 PSA Tour squash event at the Skinderskovhallen in Herlev, Denmark.

Selby, the event favourite from England, faced a lone Scandinavian when he took on Badr Abdel Aziz, the No4 seed from Sweden. After surviving a tie-break in the opening game, the 25-year-old from Essex booked his place in the final with an 11-10 (2-0), 11-6, 11-3 victory in 37 minutes.

"I'm pretty happy with the win and I was more comfortable on the glass court today," said Selby as he celebrated reaching his seventh PSA Tour final. "Badr is a skilful player with the racket, so I had to keep him running since he's had two tough matches already. I'm looking forward to the final spot tomorrow."

Rosner, the second seed from Germany, faced an unexpected opponent in the other semi after US qualifier Gilly Lane followed his first round upset over eighth seed Romain Tenant by claiming another French scalp, third seed Mathieu Castagnet, in the quarter-finals.

But the 22-year-old from Philadelphia was unable to pull off a hat-trick of upsets as Rosner, the 20-year-old world No63 from Wurzburg, rallied to an 11-5, 11-7, 11-7 win in 38 minutes.

"It was a good semi-final for me - I knew that this was Gilly's fifth match, so he would be a tired, so I tried to take that to my advantage," said Rosner, now in his second Tour final. "I'm glad that I won in three straight games after yesterday's five-gamer, so I'll feel fresh for the final tomorrow."

But Lane was not too downhearted: "Simon was too good today and he did some great attacking from the front. I just wish I had some more fuel in my tank to give more - but overall I'm very pleased with my performance - this is the best tournament so far for me and a great confidence boost as well."
