Shahier Shoots Down Boswell In Comfort Inn Upset

20 Jan 2008

Canada's Shahier Razik claimed one of the biggest scalps of his career when he upset Australia's world No13 Stewart Boswell, the top seed, in the semi-finals of the Comfort Inn Open to earn a surprise place in the final of the 3-star PSA Tour squash event at Evergreen Squash Club in Vancouver, Canada.

True to form, the 30-year-old from Toronto - a known slow-starter - dropped the first game for just one point. But Razik then took the upper hand and went on to win the match 1-11, 11-8, 11-7 and 11-7 in 62 minutes - causing the partisan crowd to erupt with a long standing ovation.

Razik, celebrating his 26th appearance in a PSA Tour final, will face second seed Adrian Grant. The left-handed Londoner took a two-game lead against fellow Englishman Bradley Ball - but increasing pain from an earlier injury to his left knee caused the fourth seed to retire after the second game, giving Grant an 11-7, 11-8 (ret.) win.

Grant, the 27-year-old world No18 - now based in Halifax, Yorkshire - is marking his 19th Tour final appearance.

Semi-finals:
[3] Shahier Razik (CAN) bt [1] Stewart Boswell (AUS) 1-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-7 (62m)
[2] Adrian Grant (ENG) bt [4] Bradley Ball (ENG) 11-7, 11-8 ret. (48m)
