Kitchen Cruises To Crome Win In Calgary

1 Oct 2007

Shelley Kitchen affirmed her status as New Zealand's top squash player when she despatched compatriot Louise Crome in the final of the Women's Elbow River Casino Calgary Open to claim her 10th WISPA World Tour title at the Bow Valley Club in Calgary, Canada.

As she had all week, the top-seeded Kiwi played with relentless pace, pressure and precision - leaving Crome little opportunity to attack.

After 31 minutes, Kitchen wrapped up a 9-6, 9-0, 9-3 victory - repeating her win over Crome in the New Zealand Nationals final earlier in the month.

"Although Crome, the sixth seed, played well, she was unable to match the level of play that Kitchen was able to summon all week here at the Elbow River Casino Open," said club professional Ken Cross.

"The patrons of The Bow Valley Club were treated to another incredible display of squash today. We look forward to hosting the Second Annual Elbow River Casino Open next season. Based on feedback from sponsors, it should be bigger and better next year!"

The WISPA Tour event was staged to 'squash' Breast Cancer in Calgary. "It looks like we will be close to hitting our target of raising $30,000.00 for the treatment of Breast Cancer," added Cross.
