Calgary Kiwi Climax Is Crome/Kitchen Final

30 Sep 2007

An all-New Zealand final of the Women's Elbow River Casino Calgary Open will bring to a climax the WISPA World Tour event at the Bow Valley Club in Calgary, Canada, which is hoping to "Squash" Breast Cancer.

Shelley Kitchen, the top seed from Auckland, continued her dominating ways in the event using a combination of relentless pace and well-placed shots to the front of the court to keep third-seeded Mexican Samantha Teran on the defensive for much of the semi-final match.

Kitchen, who reached the semi-finals without dropping a game, maintained her 'clean sheet' in a 9-5, 9-1, 9-3 victory which takes her into her 16th WISPA final.

"An impressive display of squash by both players non the less has left the patrons of the Bow Valley Club duly impressed by the level of squash these Ladies can play," said club professional Ken Cross.

In the other semi-final, Kiwi Louise Crome came back from one game down to convincingly 'squash' Canadian favourite Runa Reta's hopes of advancing to the final. Crome, the sixth seed also from Auckland, beat seventh-seeded Ottawa-based Reta 4-9, 9-2, 9-1, 9-0.

Crome, who is celebrating her ninth appearance in a WISPA final, is meeting Kitchen in a repeat of the New Zealand National Championship final which took place earlier in the month.
