Yasser Takes The Master In Atlanta Final

22 May 2007

It was the first time that Yasser El Halaby had faced his illustrious Egyptian compatriot Omar Elborolossy, a former world No14 - but the 22-year-old underdog was ruthless in his straight games victory over his higher-seeded opponent as he lifted the Atlanta Open title for the first time at the Concourse Athletic Club in Atlanta in the US state of Georgia.

El Halaby, from Cairo, is clearly at home on US courts where the 2006 Princeton graduate last year became the only four-time winner of the men's national intercollegiate squash championship.

Seeded eight, El Halaby reached the final after first upsetting England's No2 seed Chris Simpson, then third-seeded Colombian Miguel Angel Rodriguez.

In the final, he chopped 31-year-old fifth seed Elborolossy 11-3, 11-6, 11-7 in 40 minutes to win the second PSA Tour title of his career.

Final:
[8] Yasser El Halaby (EGY) bt [5] Omar Elborolossy (EGY) 11-3, 11-6, 11-7 (40m)
