Seeds Suffer In Atlanta

Colombian Miguel Angel Rodriguez was the only top seed to survive the quarter-finals of the Atlanta Open at the Concourse Athletic Club in Atlanta in the US state of Georgia.

The third seed beat Canada's No7 seed Robin Clarke 11-10 (2-0), 11-7, 11-4 and will now face Egypt's Yasser El Halaby in the semis after the eighth seed upset England's No2 seed Chris Simpson 11-9, 11-5, 6-11, 11-8.

There will be surprise Colombian interest in the other semi-final after sixth seed Bernardo Samper upset Mexico's No4 seed Jorge Isaac Baltazar Ferreira 11-8, 11-9, 11-8.

Samper would have expected to face top seed Eric Galvez for a place in the final, but the Mexican favourite was forced to retire injured after three games - allowing Egypt's fifth seed Omar Elborolossy to prevail after a 4-11, 11-3, 11-6 ret. scoreline.
