Reta Tested In Texas

11 May 2007

Canada's Runa Reta was taken the full distance by England's unseeded Suzie Pierrepont in the first round of the Women's Texas Open in Dallas before surviving to make the next round of the WISPA Silver event which is in its sixth year in the US state of Texas.

In only her third Tour event since recovering from a heel injury sustained during November's World Open in Belfast, Pierrepont forged a 2/1 lead against the fifth seed ranked eight places higher in the world.

But Reta fought back to secure a 9-5, 1-9, 6-9, 9-7, 9-5 win and a place in the last eight - where she will take on New Zealand's fourth seed Jaclyn Hawkes, who beat Ireland's Laura Mylotte 9-0, 9-1, 9-1.

Top seed Natalie Grainger was one of only three players to drop games in the first round. The 29-year-old US champion from Washington DC recovered from losing the second game to beat England's Kirsty McPhee 9-2, 4-9, 9-5, 9-2.
