Mixed Fortunes For Mexicans In Dallas

There were mixed fortunes for three Mexicans fighting for qualifying places in the main draw of the Women's Texas Open in Dallas, USA.

Sarycarmen Diaz and Ileana Novelo lost out to Canadians Tara Mullins and Leona Grigg, respectively - but Karina Herrera Zuniga, from Mexico City, secured a 10-8, 9-5, 10-8 qualifying final win over England's Tina Rix to claim a place in her third WISPA World Tour event of the year.

The 29-year-old lines up against sixth seed Rebecca Botwright, also from England.

Top seed in the WISPA Silver event in its sixth year in Texas is USA's Natalie Grainger, looking for her second WISPA title on home soil since becoming a US citizen in February.

Grainger faces England's Kirsty McPhee in the opening round - and is expected to come up against Hong Kong's second seed Rebecca Chiu in Sunday's final.
