Koukal On Course For Czech Double

14 Oct 2004

Local hero Jan Koukal is one match away from winning his second PSA Tour title in his Czech Republic homeland in eight months after reaching the final of the Czech Classic in the country's capital city Prague.

The 21-year-old third seed - who won the Czech Open title in February - stemmed a fight back by England's Jonathan Kemp before upsetting the No2 seed 11-9 11-10 9-11 1-11 11-7 in 63 minutes.

Koukal, the world No42 who is celebrating his fourth PSA final appearance this year, will face seventh seed Raj Nanda. The Netherlands-based Australian also scored a notable upset in the other semi-final when he beat England's fifth seed Alex Stait 11-6 10-11 11-4 6-11 11-7 in 58 minutes.

Whilst Nanda has appeared in seven PSA finals in the Antipodes, this will be the 26-year-old from Brisbane's first in the northern hemisphere.

Semi-finals:
[7] Raj Nanda (AUS) bt [5] Alex Stait (ENG) 11-6, 10-11 (1-3), 11-4, 6-11, 11-7 (58m)
