Delierre Delights Home Crowd By Winning Ottawa Title

Top seed Shawn Delierre delighted his home fans in Canada when he beat Mexico's second seed Eric Galvez in the final of the Goodlife Open to lift the PSA Tour title at the Goodlife Fitness Club in Ottawa.

It was a highly-focused 24-year-old from Montreal that beat Galvez in five games in a great shot-making encounter. Delierre lost the first game with what seems his customary slow start.

"It is almost as if he feels his opponent out, before stepping up his game," said tournament organiser Heather Wallace.

The Canadian started to move well in the second and third games, getting onto the Mexican's short balls quickly and counterattacking. Delierre also opened up his game, hitting a variety of winners from the mid court putting his opponent off balance.

In the fourth, Delierre hit three unforced errors, more than he had hit all match up to that point - letting Galvez back into the match to take the fourth game.

In the fifth game, with the score at 5-4, Galvez scrapped his knee resulting in an injury time out to get patched up. Once back on court, the Mexican did not recover his intensity as Delierre raced on to take the game, and the match 6-11, 11-4, 11-6, 9-11, 11-4 in 71 minutes.

The triumph marks the fifth title of Delierre's career - and his third this year.

Final:
[1] Shawn Delierre (CAN) bt [2] Eric Galvez (MEX) 6-11, 11-4, 11-6, 9-11, 11-4 (71m)
