Delierre & Galvez To Contest Ottawa Final

22 Oct 2006

The top two seeds Shawn Delierre and Eric Galvez will meet in the final of the Goodlife Open in Canada after surviving tough semi-finals in the PSA Tour event at the Goodlife Fitness Club in Ottawa.

After dropping the first game, Canadian favourite Delierre came alive, hitting winners from all over the court - leaving his English opponent Bradley Ball shaking his head.

"He was just too good today," said Ball after Delierre secured the 4-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-8 win in 60 minutes which takes the 24-year-old from Montreal into his sixth PSA Tour final.

Second seed Eric Galvez also advanced after bringing the fine run of local hero David Phillips to an end. The Mexican's court coverage was exceptional and he was able to counter attack qualifier Phillips' short shots which had worked so well for him in previous rounds.

Fatigue took its toll on the young Canadian as Galvez, full of energy, ran out an 11-9, 11-7, 11-6 winner in 37 minutes.

Galvez, winner of the Mexican Open earlier in the month, is now celebrating the ninth PSA Tour final of his career, but the third this year.

Semi-finals:
[1] Shawn Delierre (CAN) bt [4] Bradley Ball (ENG) 4-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-8 (60m)
[2] Eric Galvez (MEX) bt [Q] David Phillips (CAN) 11-9, 11-7, 11-6 (37m)
