Gregory Gaultier Records Career-High World Ranking

5 Sep 2006

While Egypt's world champion Amr Shabana moves into his sixth month as world number one, France's Gregory Gaultier records a career-high seventh position in the new September Dunlop PSA Men's World Rankings, announced by the Professional Squash Association.

Shabana, currently defending his World Open title on home soil by the Great Pyramids of Giza, maintains his lead ahead of Australia's David Palmer at two; Frenchman Thierry Lincou at No3; England's James Willstrop in fourth place; Australian Anthony Ricketts at No5; and England's Peter Nicol at six.

Gaultier, 23, from Aix-en-Provence, has enjoyed an excellent run on the PSA Tour this year, reaching the semi-finals of both the Tournament of Champions in New York in March and the Bermuda PSA Masters in April - both times seeded 11. Last month he recorded his 15th PSA Tour final appearance by reaching the climax of the Mamut English Open in Sheffield, where he was the No7 seed.

Egypt's Wael El Hindi also boasts a career-best ranking in the new list. The 26-year-old from Cairo claimed his fourth PSA Tour title in style last month, winning the Rotary Heliopolis Open crown in his hometown from the position of fifth seed.

Just outside the top 20, Dutchman Laurens Jan Anjema leaps five places to a best-ever ranking of 22 after reaching the Heliopolis Open final unseeded!
