Alexandria Finalist Assured At Sporting Club

23 Aug 2006

Organisers of the WISPA World Tour squash event in Egypt's second largest city can rejoice in the fact that a local player is certain to reach the final after top seed Engy Kheirallah and third seed Raneem El Weleily successfully overcame their quarter-final opponents in the Women's Alexandria Sporting Club Open to set up an all-Alexandria semi-final.

Kheirallah, the city's top world-ranked player, ended Irish qualifier Laura Mylotte's unexpected run by beating the 31-year-old 9-2, 9-2, 9-0 to reach her third successive semi-final in a WISPA event in her home country.

The 24-year-old defending champion will now take on 17-year-old El Weleily, who needed four games to dismiss England's sixth seed Georgina Stoker 9-5, 9-2, 6-9, 9-2.

The other semi-final will feature Hong Kong's fourth seed Christina Mak and the No2 seed from France Isabelle Stoehr. Mak defeated unseeded Czech Lucie Fialova 9-1, 9-1, 9-1, while Stoehr was made to work hard for her 9-7, 7-9, 9-4, 9-1 victory over Egyptian qualifier Amnah El Trabolsy, also a citizen of Alexandria.
