Upsets Abound At Bluenose Classic In Nova Scotia

17 Feb 2006

Half of the seeds failed to overcome the first hurdles in the Bluenose Classic in Canada - and two qualifiers made it through to the last eight in the new PSA Tour event in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

Third seed David Phillips, of Montreal, ran into a four game loss at the hands of Scottish qualifier Kristen Johnson - persistence built onto a lanky frame! The 20-year-old from Oxford in England will now face Martin Knight for a place in the semi-finals.

The unseeded New Zealander dismissed Australia's fifth seed Tony James 11-9 11-8 10-11 11-9 in 65 minutes.

An all-Canadian quarter-final was set up when qualifier Keith Pritchard upset Marton Szaboky. The 17-year-old from Calgary beat the No8 seed from Hungary 11-7 11-4 11-8 and will now meet top seed Shawn Delierre. The 23-year-old from Montreal beat New Zealand's Campbell Grayson 11-5 11-9 11-6.
