Orfi & Asal Capture Qatar Classic Crowns

Reigning World Champions Amina Orfi and Mostafa Asal have captured the first major titles of the 2026/27 PSA Squash Tour season, defeating Hania El Hammamy and Victor Crouin on finals day at the QTerminals Qatar Classic in Doha.

Nineteen-year-old Orfi has once again etched her name in the history books after her epic five-game win over El Hammamy ensured that she will become the youngest-ever women's World No.1 in Monday's new PSA World Rankings.

At 107-minutes in length, the enthralling title-decider between the two fierce Egyptian rivals became the joint-eighth longest women's match in PSA Tour history.

Despite a third-game ankle injury for El Hammamy, which initially saw the momentum swing heavily in Orfi's favour, El Hammamy demonstrated why she has held the world No.1 spot for the last 11 months, coming from 2/1 behind and later saving two Championship Balls with some incredibly gutsy squash.

However, Orfi wasn't to be denied her historic moment, with the teenager holding her nerve on her third Championship Ball to clinch victory by a 7-11, 11-7, 11-8, 7-11, 12-10 scoreline.

After the match, Orfi said: "It's amazing. To be able to become World Champion and World No.1 in the same year, it's amazing.

"It's been a dream since I was young. I'm really happy right now.

"I've learned from past matches against Hania and Nour [ElSherbini], just to keep my cool at the end and go for it, because if I don't go for it, she will. It worked in the end today."

Meanwhile, men's world No.1 Mostafa Asal secured his first Qatar Classic title after defeating world No.5 Victor Crouin by an 11-5, 11-6, 11-2 scoreline.

Asal, a beaten finalist in the last two editions of the Platinum-level event, ensured it was third time lucky with a dominant performance which matched power with accuracy, giving his opponent Crouin few opportunities to get a foothold in the match.

Competing in his second Qatar Classic final, Crouin looked to be building his way into the match at the start of the second game after taking a 5-1 lead, displaying some of the attacking play which saw him claim upset wins over Paul Coll and Karim Gawad in the last two rounds.

However, from there, Asal powered through a remarkable 21 of the next 24 points to seal victory after just 48 minutes.

The comprehensive victory is Asal's 30th PSA Tour title and means the 25-year-old has now won every single current major title on the PSA Squash Tour.

"My emotions just came out after the win, I enjoyed my celebration," Asal said after the match.

"It's amazing to win this title. It was the only one I was struggling with. As they say, third-time lucky.

"I'm proud of myself; it's been a tough week. It's the first one of the season, and I just want to thank everyone who helped me get here today."
