World No.1s El Hammamy & Asal Take ToC Titles

30 Jan 2026

World No.1s Hania El Hammamy and Mostafa Asal have been crowned the 2026 Sprott Tournament of Champions presented by Crowd Street champions following their victories over Olivia Weaver and Paul Coll, respectively, at Grand Central Terminal in New York City.

El Hammamy produced a comeback for the ages to retain her Tournament of Champions crown in a five-game epic with US No.1 Weaver.

The world No.1, who becomes only the fourth female player to retain the title, trailed 9-3 to Weaver in the fifth, with the American two points away from securing her maiden Platinum-level title. The 30-year-old would have written herself into the history books as the first-ever US-born player to achieve that feat.

But El Hammamy, who had never before been defeated by Weaver on the PSA Squash Tour, denied the American a landmark victory as she sensationally surged back to register eight points without reply to overturn the six-point deficit and lift her 19th trophy on Tour, triumphing 11-7, 5-11, 11-9, 5-11, 11-9 in 81 minutes of pulsating squash.

"I'm really thrilled!" said the Egyptian 25-year-old afterwards.

"It's an unbelievable tournament and I had a massive battle yesterday with Nour. I was struggling this morning to get out of bed to have a hit.

"Today I felt so flat throughout the whole match, I was so tired and she was playing incredibly well. She was really on point today and I'm beyond proud I managed to get through this today. I have no words for what happened in the fifth!"

Meanwhile Asal has won his first-ever Tournament of Champions title following a dominant 3/0 victory against world No.2 Coll.

Asal, a first-time finalist at Grand Central, was meeting Coll for the third time this season with silverware up for grabs, with the New Zealander triumphing in the Qatar Classic and Asal lifting the US Open crown.

Since losing in the semi-finals of the Silicon Valley Open to Victor Crouin in October, the Eggyptian hasn't dropped a single game when he's stepped on court and the 'Raging Bull' maintained that incredible streak, dominating all three games against the Kiwi to win 11-6, 11-1, 11-4 for Tour title number 26.

"I am really proud of myself. Just getting into the final of ToC and just winning this title feels amazing," said the 24-year-old.

"I couldn't believe it, this tournament is unique and I am so happy to add this to my list of trophies and titles. It's unreal.

"I am so happy with this title. I am really happy to win the ToC, it's a unique event at a unique venue.

"There is a lot of people that are supporting me behind the scenes, I want to thank them all, my parents, my coaches, and my sponsors, I want to thank everyone."

The PSA Squash Tour heads to Chicago next for the Windy City Open 2026 Presented by the Walter Family, which takes place at the University Club of Chicago between February 5 - 11. All the action from the Platinum-level event will be available to watch live on SQUASHTV.
