Sobhy Storms To Brazilian Success

15 Oct 2010

New York teenager Amanda Sobhy continued her relentless assault on titles on the WISPA World Squash Tour when she won the $12,900 Women's Lopes Royal Open at the MDO Squash Club in the Brazil capital Brasilia.

Runner-up in the US Open in Chicago earlier in the month, 17-year-old Sobhy went one better when she upset top-seeded Dane Line Hansen 11-6, 8-11, 11-6, 11-9 in 42 minutes in the climax of the first WISPA Tour event to be staged in Brasilia.

The triumph marks Sobhy's fifth - and biggest - Tour title. It follows a remarkable run for the youngster who in Chicago became the youngest player ever to reach the final of her country's longest established squash tournament; in June became the World Junior Champion; and in May became the first 16-year-old to notch up four Tour titles.
