Rodgers & Farkas Upset Odds To Win Hungarian Junior Open Titles

Ben Rodgers and Fatime Farkas, representing England and Hungary, respectively, upset the form books in the finals of the Hungarian Junior U19 Open to win the Grand Prix titles in the European Squash Federation Junior Circuit event in Szeged.

Rodgers, second seed in the men's event, despatched local hopes Gabor Szabo and Peter Hoffman to reach the final, where his opponent was Slovakian favourite Miroslav Celler.

But the 18-year-old from Devon, a quarter-finalist last year, was too strong for Celler, beating the Bratislava-based 18-year-old 11-6, 11-6, 11-6 to win his first ESF circuit title.

There was long-awaited - and surprise - local success in the women's event when unseeded Fatime Farkas stole the honours. The 17-year-old faced Sabrina Rehman in the final after the second seed from Austria battled to a five-game win over top-seeded compatriot Sandra Polak in the semi-finals.

Unable to reproduce the same form in the final, Rehman when down in straight games as Farkas delighted her Hungarian fans in Szeged by winning 11-7, 11-7, 11-7.
