Naude Nets Netherlands Success
16 Mar 2009
Dutch squash star Annelize Naude claimed the fifth Tour title of her career when she beat England's Victoria Lust in the final of the Women's Forexx Eindhoven Open, the $4,000 WISPA World Tour event at Squashtime in the Netherlands city of Eindhoven.
The 32-year old from Amsterdam put on an impressive display of high quality squash against teenager Lust and never let her English opponent settle in the match.
Naudé stormed through the first two games for the loss of only four points with faultless squash. The 19-year old Lust seemed to be more at ease in the third, but a victory for the two-time Dutch Champion was never in doubt.
With an 11-2, 11-2, 11-6 score line, world No36 Naudé secured an important tournament win, which is sure to boast her position on the WISPA World Rankings after dropping outside the top 30 for the first time in eight years earlier this month.
The runner-up spot of her promising opponent - the fourth one in as many months - will also see Lust continue her impressive rise on the all important rankings. Seeded five, Lust made her breakthrough in the quarter-finals when she upset Manuela Manetta, the second seed from Italy, 6-11, 17-15, 12-10, 12-10.
The promising English teenager then ended the brave run of qualifier Nicolette Fernandes, the 25-year-old from Guyana who was making her first appearance on the Tour since April 2007 after recovering from a knee injury.
Final:
[1] Annelize Naude (NED) bt [5] Victoria Lust (ENG) 11-2, 11-2, 11-6
