Second Seeds Celebrate Super Satellite Success
12 Dec 2008
Second seeds Matthew Karwalski and Delia Arnold celebrated success in the NSC Super Satellite No5 after triumphs in today's finals of the Tour events at the Bukit Jalil National Squash Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Karwalski, from Newcastle in New South Wales, battled through to the second PSA Tour final of his career without dropping a game.
His unseeded opponent Andrew Wagih Shoukry upset two seeds en-route to his second Tour final in just over a year. Included in the 18-year-old Egyptian's scalps was Kamran Khan, the Malaysian son of the legendary Pakistani Jansher Khan who upset Australian favourite Mike Corren in the opening round.
In the men's final, Wagih Shoukry extended Karwalski to five games - but the 23-year-old Australian ultimately prevailed 8-11, 11-5, 11-9, 3-11, 11-7 in 45 minutes to win the second PSA title of his career.
Buoyed by her maiden appearance for Malaysia in last week's World Team Championship in Cairo, Delia Arnold reached the women's final in the city of her birth without conceding a game.
In her ninth WISPA World Tour final, the 22-year-old from Selangor faced Donna Urquhart, the 21-year-old top seed from Queensland.
Arnold maintained the upper hand throughout, beating the Australian 11-9, 14-12, 11-3 in 31 minutes to net the fourth title of her career - and her third in the Malaysian capital.
