Nielsen Wins Turnstone Trophy
6 Oct 2008
Rasmus Nielsen claimed his maiden PSA Tour title after scoring a 42-minute win over Lewys Hurst in the final of the Tilburg Open for the Turnstone Squash Trophy, the inaugural PSA Tour Satellite event in the Dutch city of Tilburg.
The Danish ace came out firing against the 22-year old Welshman and overpowered his tired looking opponent in the opening two games.
The pattern continued in the beginning of the third, but Hurst, the world number 148 and fourth seed in the event, fought his way back into the match, taking the third game after saving three match balls.
The 25-year old Nielsen, from Odense and seeded third, was not to be denied though and held off stiff opposition from a spirited Hurst in the beginning of the fourth game to clinch the new PSA title 11-6, 11-3, 11-13, 11-6 after 42 minutes.
"The valuable world ranking points that come with it will surely see him improve on his ranking of 138 in next month's PSA ranking to a position that he is worthy of - based on his performance in Tilburg this week," commented tournament organiser Tommy Berden.
Final:
