Favourites Flourish In KL

11 Jul 2008

Top seeds Shahid Zaman and Line Hansen, from Pakistan and Denmark, respectively, took the titles in the NSC Super Satellite No2 at the Bukit Jalil National Squash Centre in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

After overcoming compatriot Arshad Iqbal Burki in the semi-finals, 25-year-old Zaman faced Australia's second seed Mike Corren in the final of the men's $6,000 PSA Tour Super Satellite event.

Corren, in his 27th Tour final, took the opening game. But Zaman struck back to win the next three to take the title 7-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-7 in just 27 minutes.

It was a confidence-boosting win for the Quetta-based Pakistani - the fifth PSA Tour title of his career, but the first for over three years.

Local player Delia Arnold was the star of the women's WISPA World Tour event. The 22-year-old sixth seed from KL made her breakthrough in the quarter-finals where she upset India's No2 seed Joshna Chinappa.

A semi-final victory over fourth-seeded Canadian Alana Miller took Arnold into her first Tour final of the year.

But favourite Line Hansen, ranked almost 20 places higher in the world, was too strong for Arnold in the final, winning 9-7, 9-4, 9-7 in 46 minutes to record the fourth title of her career.
