Nishio Knocks Out Ng In Hong Kong Upset

Unseeded Mami Nishio, the sole competitor from Japan, produced the only women's upset in the Crocodile Challenge Cup when she beat sixth seed Elise Ng in today's first round of the $12,000 WISPA World Tour squash event at the Hong Kong Squash Centre in Hong Kong.

Nishio, at 34 the oldest player in the draw, despatched local hopeful Ng 9-0, 9-5, 9-5 and will now face second seed Rebecca Chiu, also from Hong Kong, for a place in the semi-finals.

There was unexpected Hong Kong success in the men's Super Satellite PSA Tour event when qualifier Roger Ngan beat England's No8 seed Eddie Charlton 11-7, 11-9, 7-11, 11-9.

Tom Pashley became a further English seed casualty when he was forced to retire injured after just one game against Bader Al Hussaini. The 24-year-old unseeded Kuwaiti will now face Hong Kong's Max Lee, the fourth seed, in the quarter-finals.
