Kippax Emulates Jackman Milestone In Malmo
31 Mar 2008
Sarah Kippax became the first English woman since 1999 to win three successive WISPA World Tour squash titles when she clinched the Malmo Open trophy at the Bellevuestadion in Malmo, Sweden.
Kippax only dropped a single game as she cruised through to the final of the WISPA Tour 4 event in its second year.
In the final, Malaysian favourite Tricia Chuah opened up a 6-1 lead. But the Yorkshire-based second seed from Cheshire came back strongly to win nine straight points to claim the first game.
English underdog Kippax won the second game without dropping a point - and raced to a 5-0 lead in the third before wrapping up her 9-6, 9-0, 9-1 victory and the Malmo Open title.
Sarah Kippax began her triple title trail at the Swedish Open in Linköping in February - then collected the Swiss Open crown in Zurich earlier this month before returning for further Swedish success in Malmo.
It was almost nine years ago that former world number one Cassie Jackman followed her triumphs in the Mexican Open and Monte Carlo Classic to claim an unexpected victory in the 1999 World Open in the USA - to not only secure a hat-trick of consecutive Tour titles for the first time in her illustrious career, but also to become world champion for the first and only time!
Final:
[2] Sarah Kippax (ENG) bt [1] Tricia Chuah (MAS) 9-6, 9-0, 9-1
