Corren & Pierrepont Lift NSC Satellite Titles

4 Sep 2007

Australia's Mike Corren and England's Suzie Pierrepont dashed local hopes of success in the NSC Satellite No4 in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur with victories over Malaysians in today's finals at the National Squash Centre in Jalan Duta.

Corren, the top seed in the men's event, beat Malaysian qualifier Ivan Yuen in the semi-finals - then dealt a double local blow when he despatched Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan, the second seed from Malaysia, 11-6, 11-9, 11-9 in the 41-minute final.

The success gives the 33-year-old Australian National champion from Adelaide his first PSA Tour title of the year, but the 14th of his career.

Suzie Pierrepont's triumph in the women's WISPA World Tour event marked a successful return to form for the 22-year-old from Sussex who crashed out of last year's World Open in Belfast with a heel injury.

Seeded two, Pierrepont also defeated two Malaysians en-route to the title, first beating third seed Lim Yoke Wah in straight games in the semi-finals, then upsetting event favourite Delia Arnold 9-1, 10-8, 9-5 in the final in 39 minutes.

It was Pierrepont's first appearance in a WISPA final for more than two years, and the second Tour title of her career.
