29 Aug 2007

The world of squash is mourning the loss of 16-year-old Raza Yaqoob, the Pakistan U17 champion who died in hospital after receiving severe head injuries in a road accident in Lahore this month while travelling on a motorcycle with a friend.

In a message to the Pakistan Squash Federation, PSA Tour Executive Sheila Cooksley wrote: "It is with great sadness that I have read today of the untimely passing of Raza Yaqoob. By all accounts he was an up and coming player with the prospect of an excellent career in the squash world. We know he was very passionate about his sport and was very keen to represent his country on the international stage.

"To die so young, in such awful circumstances, must be quite unbearable for his family and friends. Please pass on our sincere condolences to his family at this very sad time."
