Top Seeds Triumph In Hungarian Junior Open

Top seeds Tom Hoevenaars and Linda Hruzikova triumphed in the Klip Hungarian Junior U19 Open in the Hungarian capital Budapest.

It was Dutchman Hoevenaars' second European Squash Federation Junior Circuit success in two months, after winning the Nordic Junior Open title in Denmark in September. After sweeping aside Swedes in the previous two rounds, the Utrecht-born 18-year-old faced fellow countryman Bastian Meulenbelt in the men's final.

Meulenbelt, a 3/4 seed, made his breakthrough in the semi-finals where he came from two games down to upset Ondrej Ertl, the second seed from the Czech Republic, 6-9 9-10 9-4 9-5 9-1.

Hoevenaars had the upper hand in the final, however, beating Meulenbelt 9-0 9-3 9-7.

After being taken to four games by Hungary's Eszter Varga in the quarter-finals, Slovakia's Linda Hruzikova eased into the final with a whitewash 9-0 9-0 9-0 win over Sweden's Joseta Bertilsson in the semis.

In the final, Hruzikova also faced a 3/4 seed after Tereza Ctvrtnickova, from the Czech Republic, upset Melissa Meulenbelt, the second seed from the Netherlands, 10-9 9-4 9-0. But 18-year-old Linda Hruzikova was too strong for her Czech opponent, winning 9-0 9-5 9-3.
