Serme & Schoor Score In Belgian Junior Open

8 Nov 2005

Germany's Jens Schoor and France's Camille Serme lifted the titles in the Belgian Junior U19 Open in Herentals, Belgium.

Serme, the top seed (pictured), was successful for the second year in a row. The 16-year-old from Creteil in France swept through to the final without dropping a game. In an all-French climax, the defending champion recovered from a game down to beat third seed Soraya Renai 7-9 10-9 9-1 9-3.

In the men's event, fourth seed Schoor made his breakthrough in the semi-finals when he beat French favourite Mathieu Castagnet 9-7 10-8 0-9 9-3. The 18-year-old from Koolenz faced Rik Smet in the final - three days before the unseeded Belgian's 19th birthday!

Smet caused a major upset in the second round when he beat Switzerland's second seed Nicolas Mueller. The Belgian teenager survived a five-game semi-final against England's Chris Tasker-Grindley - and twice led in the final before Schoor took the upper hand to record a 4-9 10-9 6-9 9-4 9-7 victory.
