Jahangir Khan Donates British Open Trophy To Earthquake Appeal Fund

Pakistan squash legend Jahangir Khan has donated one of his British Open trophies to his country's Earthquake Relief Fund, and is urging the worldwide squash community to support his bid to raise money for the appeal.

Khan, the record ten-times British Open champion who is now President of the World Squash Federation (WSF), has also joined fellow leading Pakistan sports figures - including cricketers Javed Miandad and Moin Khan, and Olympic hockey gold medallist Islahuddin Siddiqui - in the formation of the Sportsmen Welfare Trust in fundraising from the general public, companies and businessmen.

"We are trying to generate funds as widely as possible to help in the redevelopment of the parts of our country which have been devastated by the earthquake. We need to do everything we can to get things back to normal as soon as possible - we are talking about four million homeless people!" said Jahangir.

"I donated one of my British Open trophies to be auctioned on Ary Digital Television Network, which covers 135 countries - and it has been on the TV programme every night. I hope it will raise lots of money for those people who have lost everything.

"I urge the world of squash to help us in this noble cause," added Khan.

Plans are already underway for teams participating in next month's Men's World Team Championships in Islamabad to raise funds for Jahangir Khan's Sportsmen Welfare Trust.
