Gavin Grinds Out Goodlife Semi

23 Oct 2005

Welshman Gavin Jones delivered a fine performance in the semi-finals of the Par-Fyum Goodlife Open when he upset top-seeded Canadian Shahier Razik in a 106-minute marathon to reach his third PSA Tour final of the year in Ottawa, Canada.

Jones, the 25-year-old third seed from Maesteg, stemmed a fight back by the local hero to win 11-5 11-9 10-11 5-11 11-6. Victory in the fourth PSA final of his career would give Gavin his maiden title.

In the other all-English clash, Essex giant-killer Daryl Selby met his match in second seed Jonathan Kemp - and went down 11-4 11-5 11-5 in 24 minutes.

Kemp, 24, from Shropshire, is celebrating his third appearance in a PSA Tour final - and looking for his first win since lifting the Ciutat de Barcelona Open title more than two years ago in Spain.

Semi-finals:
[3] Gavin Jones (WAL) bt [1] Shahier Razik (CAN) 11-5, 11-9, 10-11 (0-2), 5-11, 11-6 (106m)
