26 Aug 2004

Another major new event on the women's international squash circuit has been announced in the USA with the revelation that the Fountain Hills WISPA Desert Oasis Championship will be added to the Women's International Squash Players' Association World Tour next year, to be played in Arizona between 10-15 March.

At a press conference attended by WISPA President and world No4 Natalie Grainger, Executive Director of the Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce Frank Ferrara said: "Fountain Hills is proud to work with WISPA and the Arizona Squash Racquets Association to bring this unique tournament to the area. It will be unlike any other sporting event that has ever been held in Arizona."

The WISPA Gold Event will feature a $45,000 prize fund and will be featured on world wide television as part of the Qatar Airways-sponsored Grand Prix TV programming.

"Fountain Park will be a great setting for this exciting new event," said a delighted Grainger at the conference. "We can't wait to bring our growing Tour here and look forward to playing in front of local squash enthusiasts. Hopefully it will be a really enduring relationship that WISPA develops with Fountain Hills."

Surrounding the championship will be a week long series of events and daily activities; in addition, there will be an amateur team tournament and attempts to break the world record for a continuous one-hour rally.
