Kennedy & Rooney Earn Surprise Super 8 Final Slots

After three sessions of Pool play in Manchester, undefeated Georgina Kennedy and Patrick Rooney earned surprise places in the finals of the inaugural AJ Bell England Squash Super 8 at the National Squash Centre.

In the deciding match of the women's Pool B draw, unseeded Kennedy overcame an early scare against Lucy Turmel to secure her place in the final against top seed Sarah-Jane Perry. Turmel proved a tough opponent getting to game point in the first before Kennedy brought it back. Kennedy took control in the latter games to win 13-11, 11-1, 11-2 in 28 minutes.

It was in the final match in men's Pool B that Patrick Rooney made it a clean sweep of victories to secure his place in the men's final against Declan James, the top seed. In an entertaining match with Daryl Selby, fourth seed Rooney prevailed 11-2, 11-4, 11-5 to round up what has been an impressive group stage for him and will be full confidence heading into the final.
