Selby Upsets Zaman To Face Nicol

English qualifier Daryl Selby recovered from two games down against eighth seed Shahid Zaman to cause a major upset in the first round of the Dunlop Hungarian Open in the Hungarian capital Budapest.

Selby, a surprise finalist in last week's Ciutat de Barcelona Open in Spain and ranked just inside the world's top 100, defeated the top twenty-ranked Pakistani 8-11 9-11 11-6 11-3 11-2 in 48 minutes to set up a quarter-final clash with compatriot Peter Nicol.

Favourite Nicol, who is seeded to win his 50th PSA Tour title in Budapest, beat the event's other English qualifier Joey Barrington 11-7 11-5 11-3 in 34 minutes.

In the longest first round match of the $50,000 PSA Tour event, seventh seed Olli Tuominen fought from 2/1 down to overcome Pakistan's unseeded Mansoor Zaman 11-10 6-11 9-11 11-5 11-9 in 57 minutes. The Finn will now meet England's No3 seed James Willstrop, an 11-4 11-6 10-11 11-5 victor over Malaysia's Ong Beng Hee.

An all-Egyptian quarter-final clash between second seed Amr Shabana and sixth seed Karim Darwish will see a repeat of this month's Heliopolis Open final, in which Darwish was forced to concede the title early in the match after twisting his ankle.

Darwish dashed local hopes of success with a brisk 11-1 11-3 11-5 defeat of Hungarian Andras Torok in 21 minutes, while former world champion Shabana took seven minutes longer to quash French qualifier Renan Lavigne 11-2 11-5 11-10.
