Illingworth Extends Home Interest In Berkshire Open

There will be unexpected domestic interest in the quarter-finals of the Berkshire Open in Williamstown, Mass, after US National champion Julian Illingworth, a qualifier, upset Australia's eighth seed Raj Nanda 11-8 11-8 3-11 2-11 11-9 in the first round of the $20,000 PSA Tour event at Williams College.

Illingworth, the Yale University No1, goes on to face Australian Cameron Pilley, the fourth seed who beat US-based compatriot Mike Corren, also a qualifier, 7-11 11-7 11-6 11-10.

Top-seeded Canadian Graham Ryding stopped any additional home interest in the event when he beat New York-born 19-year-old Christopher Gordon 11-5 11-8 11-4.

Ryding, the world No13 from Toronto, now faces unseeded compatriot Matthew Giuffre for a place in the last four.
