Makin & Peltier Earn Maiden Tour Titles

24 Aug 2015

Welshman Joel Makin and France's Cyrielle Peltier became PSA World Tour title winners for the first time in their careers after taking honours in the City of Greater Bendigo International at Bendigo Squash Courts in Bendigo, Australia.

Makin, who reached the third Tour final of his career without dropping a game, took on home hope Joshua Larkin, the third-seeded Aussie who upset Pakistan favourite Tayyab Aslam in a tough five-game semi.

The 20-year-old second seed from Pembrokeshire took the first game 11-4 and continued his dominance with 11-5 in the second. In the third, players traded points until six-all when Makin again asserted control and took the match 11-4 11-5 11-7 in 50 minutes.

Fourth seed Peltier faced top seed Milou van der Heijden in the women's final. The 24-year-old from the Netherlands - ranked 19 places higher than Peltier - took the early lead. Peltier came back strongly to win the next two games - and continued her momentum to lead 8-3 in the fourth.

But van der Heijden fought back to eight-all. Peltier managed to hold her nerve, however, and took out her first PSA title 6-11 11-6 11-7 11-9.

"I'm so happy, this is my first win, it's very important!" said the Le Mans-born 23-year-old.
