Lake Lays Claim To Jersey Classic Crown

26 May 2015

Nathan Lake triumphed in an all-English final of the Rathbones Jersey Squash Classic to win his second PSA World Tour title of the month at the PSA Challenger 5 squash event in St Clement, Jersey.

The No.3 seed from Cheltenham grabbed his unexpected place in the final after surviving a marathon 110-minute semi-final against Joel Makin, the top seed from Wales.

His final opponent Ashley Davies, the fourth seed, also came through lengthy semi - taking out second seed Michael Harris in an energy-sapping 90-minute encounter which also went the full distance.

The win took 20-year-old Davies into his first Tour final.

Lake, on the night more patience and disciplined than his younger opponent, ran out the winner in 50 minutes of fast-paced squash.

After his 11-6, 11-8, 11-7 victory, Lake said: "I'm really pleased to win my second PSA event in four weeks. I have played in this event before but never won a match, so to come back to Jersey and win is a good feeling.

"The crowds have been great all week and the members really friendly. I am shocked at how many junior players you have, and that's credit to Nick (Taylor) and his hard work."

Final:
[3] Nathan Lake (ENG) bt [4] Ashley Davies (ENG) 11-6, 11-8, 11-7 (50m)
