Pezzota Powers To Paraguay Prize

24 May 2015

Robertino Pezzota celebrated his 100th match on the PSA World Tour in fine style by becoming the first Argentinean player to win the Paraguay Open, the PSA Challenger 10 squash event in its seventh year at Club Internacional de Tenis in the Paraguay capital Asuncion.

It was a straight games quarter-final win over top seed Martin Knight that gave the 32-year-old from Rosario his breakthrough.

In the final, No.7 seed Pezzota - who was runner-up two years ago - faced Shawn Delierre, the second seed from Canada who survived a 136-minute marathon against third seed Muhd Asyraf Azan in the previous round.

Still clearly feeling the effects of his bruising semi-final, the 32-year-old from Montreal was unable to contain the determined Argentinean as Pezzota blasted the two-time Canadian champion 11-9, 11-1, 11-4 in 37 minutes to earn the fourth title of his career - and his third since November.

Final:
[7] Robertino Pezzota (ARG) bt [2] Shawn Delierre (CAN) 11-9, 11-1, 11-4 (37m)
