Peter Pulls Off First 2015 PSA Prize

5 Jan 2015

Switzerland's Reiko Peter claimed the first PSA World Tour title of 2015 after winning the Open du Gard, the PSA Challenger 5 squash event in its seventh successive year at Squash des Arenes in Nimes, France.

But after reaching the final as predicted, the No.2 seed from Lucerne proceeded to secure the title without striking a ball when surprise opponent Angus Gillams was forced to concede the match after being taken ill overnight.

Seeded five, Englishman Gillams earned his first ever place in a PSA Tour final after seeing off unseeded Frenchman Damien Volland in the quarter-finals, then eighth-seeded compatriot Lyell Fuller in an evenly-contested four-game semi-final which took almost an hour.

The ecstatic 25-year-old Peter, who only three weeks earlier made his Tour final debut at the Imet Open in Slovakia, told his Twitter followers later: "Winner of the Open du Gard 2015! #firstPSAtitle #sohappy #thanksforallthesupport".
