Andre Celebrates Maiden Title In Chateau-Arnoux

21 Jul 2014

After making his third PSA World Tour final appearance of the year - and the fourth of his career - at the Open Squash Provence Chateau-Arnoux, Frenchman Christophe Andre finally celebrated his first title success when he beat fellow countryman Auguste Dussourd in the climax of the PSA Challenger 5 event at Salle De Sport Et De Squash in Chateau-Arnoux, France.

The top seed from Reunion Island had a remarkably clear run to the final, winning his opening match in straight games before coasting through the next two after both opponents were forced to retire mid-match!

By complete contrast, 18-year-old Dussourd - one of three qualifiers to make the semi-finals - had to survive two five-game battles to make the final, his first on the PSA Tour in his first time in the main draw of a Tour event.

The Paris-based underdog took the opening game of the final, but 27-year-old Andre - ranked more than 200 places higher than Dussourd, the lowest-ranked player in the draw - soon took control before closing out the match 9-11, 11-3, 11-1, 11-9 after 46 minutes to become a Tour title winner for the first time.

Final:
[1] Christophe Andre (FRA) bt [Q] Auguste Dussourd (FRA) 9-11, 11-3, 11-1, 11-9 (46m)
