Abouelghar Shocks Reda For Sekisui Success

26 May 2014

Second seed Mohamed Abouelghar stunned fellow Egyptian and event favourite Mohd Ali Anwar Reda in the final of the Sekisui Open in Switzerland to win the PSA Challenger 10 squash event in its third year at the Sportpark Pilatus in Kriens.

Reda, the 25-year-old World No.41 from Cairo, was extended in five games in the semi-finals before overcoming fourth-seeded German Jens Schoor to reach the 17th Tour final of his career.

But Abouelghar, a 20-year-old from Giza, ranked eight places lower, is currently enjoying fine form - and celebrated his second Tour final this month when he defeated compatriot Andrew Wagih Shoukry, the No.3 seed, in the other semi.

Underdog Abouelghar was too strong for his more experienced opponent in the final - winning 11-5, 11-9, 12-10 to mark up the fifth PSA World Tour title of his career.
