Favourites Flourish In Bogota

20 Jun 2005

The top seeds Rafael F Alarcon, from Brazil, and Samantha Teran, from Mexico, produced powerful performances in the finals of the Tecnifibre La Hacienda Open to lift the men's and women's titles, respectively, and disappoint local hopes of a Colombian double in the capital Bogota.

Alarcon defeated Colombian qualifier Bernardo Samper 11-6 11-9 11-4 in 30 minutes to win the second PSA Tour title of his career - but the first outside his home country.

Samantha Teran is enjoying a fine return to the WISPA World Tour after suffering a serious knee injury in 2003. The Mexican beat Colombia's fourth seed Silvia Angulo Rugeles 9-0 9-2 9-4 in 32 minutes to earn her second WISPA title in a row after winning the Vancouver International crown in April.

The success marks the double Pan American champion's fourth WISPA success of her career.
