Nicol David In Seventh World Heaven

22 Dec 2012

Nicol David extended her record to seven world titles when she beat surprise finalist Laura Massaro in the climax of the Cayman Islands WSA World Open in Grand Cayman on the Cayman Islands.

The 29-year-old from Malaysia, who reached the final after dropping only one game, beat her third-seeded English opponent 11-6, 11-8, 11-6 in 44 minutes.

"Words can't describe how I feel right now winning this seventh World Open title," said David after her remarkable triumph. "Thanks to my team and all your wishes!"

The triumph brings Nicol's 13th year as a WSA member to a glorious climax: The World Open win is her eighth Tour title of the year and the 65th of her career. Next month, the Penangite will celebrate the seventh anniversary of her first topping the world rankings, in January 2006.
