Third Time Lucky For Walters In Chicago
21 Jun 2010
England's Lewis Walters celebrated his third appearance in a PSA World Tour final by winning his first title at the $3,000 Squashlife.com & Metro Squash Open at Life Time Athletic in Chicago, USA.
The 22-year-old top seed from Nottingham dropped his only game in the quarter-finals, against Scot Lyall Paterson - but continued through to the final where he faced another Scot, Jamie MacAulay.
Seventh seed MacAulay made his breakthrough in the last eight round where he defeated fourth-seeded Italian Paul Mathieson - then went on to oust the Danish tournament organiser Jonas Laursen in a straight games semi.
After a close opening game in the final, it was Walters who controlled matters thereafter, beating MacAulay 14-12, 11-4, 11-8 in 46 minutes to become a Tour title winner for the first time since joining the PSA in 2007.
