Camilleri Captures Adelaide Crown

21 Jun 2010

Australia's Lisa Camilleri celebrated victory in the Women's South Australian Open after overcoming New Zealander Kylie Lindsay in a five-game thriller in the $4,000 WISPA World Tour squash event at the South Adelaide Squash Centre in Adelaide.

The top-seeded Queenslander twice stemmed fight-backs by Lindsay, the No2 seed, to win 11-2, 4-11, 11-6, 9-11, 14-12.

World number 39 Camilleri has now won three Women's International Squash Players' Association tournaments in a row, bringing her total number of WISPA tournament wins to nine.

She won Australian Squash Tour titles in Darwin and Perth in the past month, but her match today was by far her toughest.

"I was feeling in my warm-up that something was wrong - my timing was out," she said.

"I just couldn't focus and Kylie took advantage. She's a very steady player - she slowed it down and put pressure on me and things got really hard.

"The fifth game was really tight so I was just happy I could tough it out."

Final:
[1] Lisa Camilleri (AUS) bt [2] Kylie Lindsay (NZL) 11-2, 4-11, 11-6, 9-11, 14-12 (54m)
